Program – Call me Mr. Terrestrial…a new presentation by Richard Pilatzke
You’ve probably heard the expression “It’s raining cats and dogs.” Well, for fly fishers they would much rather it be raining ants and beetles. Yes, it’s a terrestrial rain that can turn a placid pond into a fish feeding frenzy. If you’re lucky enough to be caught in that “rain” and you’ve got the right fly with the right cast you could be in for some exciting top water action! Terrestrial fly patterns have been around for a long time, but they saw a resurgence in the 70’s and 80’s as new materials (foam) appeared on the fly tying scene. Expert fly tier and fly fisher Richard Pilatzke knows all about fly fishing with terrestrials. He’s been doing it for over 30 years and has built a solid reputation with his fly tying demos at sporting shows across the country. He will take us through the history of terrestrial fly fishing, review key terrestrial patterns and their evolution over the last 30+ years, and visit some of his own famous foam patterns. Beer from Lone Tree Brewing Company, including Richard’s favorite Acres ‘O Green Irish Red.
